A Tweet About Chicken Nuggets Breaks Twitter's Retweet Record

Carter Wilkerson’s tweet asking Wendy’s for a year’s supply of free nuggets has surpassed Ellen DeGeneres’ Oscars selfie as the most retweeted tweet of all time.

It all started when the teenager sent a tweet to Wendy’s, asking the fast-food giant how many retweets would be needed for a year’s supply of free nuggets.

Wendy’s responded, “18 million” and Carter said “Consider it done,” and tweeted a screen grab of the offer with the caption, “Help me please. A man needs his nuggs.”

The tweet got a whopping 3.43 million retweets and set a new record. Despite failing to reach 18 million, Wendy’s has announced that he will get his free nuggets anyway.

The fast-food chain will also make a $100,000 donation in Wilkerson’s name to the Dave Thomas Foundation for Adoption.

Wilkerson released a statement, saying, “I want to give back. I am so blessed to have an opportunity to use my voice to support something I believe in. And really grateful to everyone who retweeted my post. They made this happen.”
