Selena Gomez has opened up in a new interview with 'The New York Times' about being picked on while starring on Disney Channel's Wizards of Waverly Place.
"I knew what it meant to be bullied," she says.
"I went to the biggest high school in the world, which is the Disney Channel. And my mom had a lot of history dealing with [bullying]. I heard her stories growing up."
Gomez added that those experiences led to her producing Netflix's new 13 Reasons Why, about a student who kills herself due to relentless torture at school.
"It felt like the show was mirroring what was going on in my life," she says.
