Abigail Breslin Reveals Why She Stayed Quiet About Her Sexual Assault

Abigail Breslin opened up for the second time about being raped, by posting about it on Instagram Sunday.

The 21-year-old actress first revealed she was assaulted earlier this month, and wrote the message in response to a shocking comment on her initial message that said: 'Reported rapes are the only rapes that count.' Abigail said that she did not report her rape for many reasons.

She wrote, 'First off, I was in complete shock and total denial. I didn't want to view myself as a "victim" so I suppressed it and pretended it never happened.' She also previously told her followers that she knew her rapist, and says that fact played a part in keeping her from telling police about the rape, because she feared that authorities would dismiss her account and her attacker would retaliate.

She wrote, 'Second of all, I was in a relationship with my rapist and and feared not being believed.' She added, 'I also feared that if my case didn't lead anywhere, he would still find out and hurt me even more.'

Abigail also said that she was afraid of what the consequences would be for her loved ones if she came forward about the assault.

The “Scream Queens” star then revealed that she was diagnosed with post-traumatic stress disorder a year and a half ago as a result of the rape, and explained how the attack continues to affect her daily.

She said, 'I have made a lot of progress since the event occurred, but I won't pretend it isn't something I struggle with… I still have flashbacks, I still get nightmares, I still jump when somebody touches me unexpectedly, even if it's my best friend tapping me on the shoulder.'
