Disney announced a July 19, 2019 release date for their remake of "The Lion King".
Jon Favreau, who is directing, announced the big news on social media. Donald Glover is already set for the lead role of Simba. James Earl Jones, who voiced Mufasa in the 1994 animated original, will take on the role for the remake.
Variety is reporting that Seth Rogen and Billy Eichner have been tapped to voice Timon and Pumbaa in Disney’s live-action adaptation of The Lion King. Beyonce is reportedly still in talks to play Nala.
The new Lion King will be "live-action" in the same way that Favreau's The Jungle Book remake. Remakes are big business for Disney. "Beauty and the Beast" made over $1 billion at the box office.
Their other upcoming remakes include "Mulan" and "Dumbo".
