Netflix Now Has Way More Subscribers Than Cable

Netflix has overtaken cable companies for the first time.Netflix doubled its US membership over the past five years.

According to a new report, America’s largest cable companies had 48 million subscribers in the first quarter of 2017, while Netflix held the top spot with 50.9 million.

Cable’s increasing prices have caused the shift. Some users are done with paying more than $200 a month for cable, in some locations.

The largest pay-TV providers in the US lost about 410,000 net subscribers in the first quarter of 2017.

Not only is Netflix holding the top spot for subscribers, it was also found to create the most popular original series of any streaming platform.

A report, from Parrot Analystics, shows that nine out of the 10 most popular streaming originals were showed on Netflix.
