Shawn Mendes will be the first artist to appear on the forthcoming MTV Unplugged reboot.
According to Variety, the new version of the show is set to premiere on September 8 and will feature Medes performing at the Ace Hotel in downtown Los Angeles. MTV Unplugged, which first aired in 1989, has previously featured artists including Nirvana, Jay-Z, Eric Clapton, Bruce Springsteen, Miley Cyrus, and Pearl Jam.
“At MTV, the brand equity is still so strong. It gives us an opportunity to bring back nostalgia and also recruit an entirely new consumer who may not know what Unplugged was because they weren’t born,” says Amani Duncan, MTV SVP of Music and Executive In Charge of Music for Unplugged.
Each episode of the new show will take place in a different venue of some meaning to the featured artist.
