HBO has officially greenlit a new adaptation of the Watchmen graphic novel.
Entertainment Weekly reports that the pilot will be adapted for television by Lost andThe Leftovers co-creator Damon Lindelof, and be a completely new iteration from Zach Snyder’s 2009 movie.
Lindelof previously discussed the possibility of adapting Watchmen in July, telling TVLine, “I hold the source material in such high regard, it would literally be the worst feeling in the world to screw it up.”
While a pilot doesn’t guarantee a full series order, HBO reportedly has high hopes for the project as a contender to replace Game of Thrones after it ends.
