Uber & Lyft Offering Free Rides To Hospitals In Las Vegas

In the wake of the deadliest mass shooting in recent U.S. history, Uber and Lyft are offering free rides to and from United Blood Services donation centers in Las Vegas.

The announcement came on Monday as Las Vegas Sheriff Joseph Lombardo stressed the need for blood donations in order to help the hundreds of victims fighting for their lives in hospital.

Uber and Lyft are also offering free rides (valued up to $50 and $40, respectively) to hospitals and relief centers.

Additionally, Uber is refunding all rides in the city that took place around and after the time of the shooting. And Lyft suspended its high-demand surge pricing called "Prime Time" once the company understood what was happening on Sunday night.

Both companies have been intensely criticized in the past for price gouging in the aftermath of the disaster.
