In a neat bit of life-imitating-art casting, notorious ladies' man Jared Leto has reportedly been tapped to play Playboy founder Hugh Hefner in an upcoming biopic helmed by Rush Hour director Brett Ratner.
"Jared is an old friend," the 48-year-old Ratner tells The Hollywood Reporter.
"When he heard I got the rights to Hef's story, he told me, 'I want to play him. I want to understand him.' And I really believe Jared can do it. He's one of the great actors of today."
Ratner adds that Leto didn't get to meet Hefner before his death last week at the age of 91, but says, "There's enough footage of Hef out there that Jared will be able to get as much information as he wants."
The movie does not yet have a title or release date.
