Man Arrested After Couple Finds Hidden Camera In Bedroom Of Airbnb Home

An Indiana couple learned that a Florida Airbnb homeowner had been secretly recording them with hidden cameras.

The husband and wife had rented a home in Longboat Key, Florida through Airbnb. The trip seemed to be going well until they noticed a tiny black hole on the smoke detector in the master bedroom.

Inside hubby found a camera and microphone. He called the police.

Authorities said they found two smoke detector cameras hidden in the home, and seized computers, SD cards and other data storing devices. A police spokesperson said they "don't know if there are local victims, someone who may have been dating, or a companion that doesn't realize they are being videotaped..."

The 56-year-old homeowner had been renting out his home through Airbnb for two years. He was arrested and charged with video voyeurism, but he allegedly told authorities that he installed the cameras to record sex parties he hosts at his home. He insisted that the cameras were off while he was rented the unit, but police said they found a video of the recent couple on the device.

Airbnb said in a statement that it’s "outraged" by the case and has permanently banned the homeowner from the site.
