Grocery Store Censors Graduate's Summa "Cum" Laude Cake

Oh, "cum" on!

The bakery department at a Publix supermarket in South Carolina decided to censor a customized cake for a graduation party this weekend because of the word "cum" in "summa cum laude."

"I ordered Jacob’s graduation cake from Publix. A $70 cake!! Publix refused to write the words Summa Cum Laude because I was using ‘profanity!’ They put three dashes instead of the word!" mom Cara Koscinski wrote Sunday on Facebook along with pics of the cake, which reads, "Congrats, Jacob! Summa --- Laude Class of 2018."

Koscinski added, "Shame on you Publix for turning an innocent Latin phrase into a total embarrassment for having to explain to my son and others (including my 70-year old-mother) about this joke of a cake. My son was humiliated!!! I seriously couldn’t make this crap up!!!!"

The mom has since told The Washington Post that Publix refunded her money and offered to make her another cake. She declined because "you only graduate once."
