Smash Bros. fans were shocked on Wednesday when Nintendo debuted a new trailer that showed Luigi being killed by the Grim Reaper.
The clip shows the creature using a giant scyth to remove the plumber's soul.
"First he gets possessed by a tennis racket in Mario Tennis ACes, then he literally gets his soul ripped out of him in Smash. Nintendo has been putting Luigi through hell this year," one person tweeted.
Nintendo took to Twitter later in the day to offer fans a comforting yet cryptic message. "Luigi is okay," it wrote.
Are we gonna ignore the fact that Luigi got murdered in cold blood and is literally staring at his lifeless corpse as a ghost? pic.twitter.com/kzCHAZDI1G— Masahiro Sakurai (@Nin_SmashBros) August 8, 2018
