Back in May, a teen showed up at Parkrose High School in Portland, Oregon with a shotgun. Video from the school has just been released.
It shows the football coach disarm the teen.
He immediately handed the shotgun to someone else and gave the teen a long hug, holding him even when the student tried to pull away.Students were screaming and running out of a classroom. The coach held onto him until the police arrived.
The teen was sentenced to 36 months of probation and given substance abuse and mental health treatment after bringing the gun to school.
Investigators determined that the teen did not have the intent to hurt anyone other than himself at the school. The boy had been suicidal for months and made suicidal remarks that day to a student. He tried unsuccessfully to shoot himself before the coach grabbed the shotgun.
