The New York Jets will continue to stick with Aaron Rodgers at quarterback, interim coach Jeff Ulbrich confirmed to reporters on Monday (December 2) via the New York Post.
“We have great belief in Aaron. We really do,” Ulbrich said. “We think he gives us the best opportunity to win. After assessing yesterday’s game, I thought there were moments in the first half where you saw Aaron Rodgers. I thought there were moments even in the second half where you saw Aaron Rodgers. Then, there were moments that he didn’t play to his standard and he’d tell you the same. We believe that he gives us the best opportunity to win so he’s our quarterback.”
Ulbrich, who also publicly confirmed his faith in Rodgers last Monday (November 25), addressed the veteran quarterback's status after the Jets lost to the Seattle Seahawks, 26-21, blowing a 21-7 lead by allowing 19 unanswered points and officially securing their ninth consecutive losing season at 3-9 with five games remaining. Veteran quarterback Tyrod Taylor is currently the Jets' backup.
Rodgers, who turned 41 on Monday, is in the midst of one of the worst seasons of his career, throwing for 2,627 yards, 19 touchdowns and eight interceptions on 262 of 419 passing, going 3-9 in 12 starts, which has resulted in the firings of former head coach Robert Saleh and general manager Joe Douglas.
The four-time NFL MVP suffered a season-ending Achilles injury during his first drive of the 2023 NFL season and has reportedly dealt with hamstring, knee and ankle injuries since Week 4, but claims to be feeling healthy in recent weeks.
