Miley Cyrus paid tribute to rock legend Tom Petty by covering his song “Wildflowers" on Wednesday.
“It’s just really hard for me, watching those people that I grew up with leaving,” Miley told Howard Stern before launching into her version of the title track from Petty’s 1994 solo album.
“The reason why I chose this song is because it’s hopeful. It’s hopeful rather than mourning.”
As MTV notes, Miley put a country spin on Petty’s track and even teared up at the end of the performance.
Petty died of cardiac arrest on Monday at age 66.
