Miley Cyrus Preforms Beautiful Cover Of Tom Petty's 'Wildflower'

Miley Cyrus paid tribute to rock legend Tom Petty by covering his song “Wildflowers" on Wednesday.

“It’s just really hard for me, watching those people that I grew up with leaving,” Miley told Howard Stern before launching into her version of the title track from Petty’s 1994 solo album.

“The reason why I chose this song is because it’s hopeful. It’s hopeful rather than mourning.”

As MTV notes, Miley put a country spin on Petty’s track and even teared up at the end of the performance.

Petty died of cardiac arrest on Monday at age 66.

In the words of @billyjoel, “Cyrus got pipes.” Hear highlights from @mileycyrus’s live #SternShow performance (including “Party in the U.S.A.,” “The Climb,” and “Week Without You”) on HowardStern.com (link in bio)
