Hilary Duff's neighbor Dieter Addison called New York police on Wednesday to report that the actress' boyfriend Matthew Koma punched him over his chain-smoking habit.
"I tried to avoid his fist, but he hit me on the head," Addison tells Page Six. "So I pushed him out of the apartment, but I didn’t assault him." He continues, "I have studied martial arts for many years, and I know how to block people. I didn’t want a fight. I immediately called my lawyer who told me to call the police."
Duff's reps declined to comment on the incident but did attempt to explain why Koma may have been upset.
"Hilary and her young son have been subjected to excessive secondhand smoke, late-night noise, garbage in the hallways, and an overall hazardous living environment from this man for months now," her reps said.
Duff herself took to Instagram to blast her "a**hole neighbor who smokes cigarettes and weed all night long."
She shared his name and photo on her Instagram stories and declared, "We know your parents pay your rent. We know you’ve never worked a day in your life—must be nice. Have some respect for your neighbors who work hard to live in that building."
