Constance Wu’s Rachel Chu learns that her boyfriend is basically the “Prince William of Asia” in the flashy first trailer for the film adaptation of Crazy Rich Asians.
Rachel joins her boyfriend for a wedding in his home country--where she’s forced to go head to head with the family matriarch to prove she’s good enough to join the very wealthy family.
Along the way, Rachel is seen making a number of social missteps while attending glitzy parties and riding in fancy cars.
Crazy Rich Asians is based on Kevin Kwan’s 2013 novel of the same name and also stars Awkwafina, Michelle Yeoh and Henry Golding.
It hits theaters on August 17.
