In your "Wildest Dreams," did you ever a pop star could set a new record for voter registration?
That's exactly what happened this week after Taylor Swift took to Instagram on Sunday to endorse two Democratic candidates running for office in Tennessee and to encourage her followers to register to vote.
BuzzFeed reports that in the first 24 hours after Swift's post, more than 65,000 people registered to vote via Vote.org. That eclipses the 56,669 new voters who registered nationwide in the entire month of August.
Adds Vote.org communications director Kamari Guthrie, "Vote.org saw [Tennessee] registrations spike specifically since Taylor's post...Thank God for Taylor Swift."
