Chance the Rapper recently went undercover as a Lyft driver to make a video encouraging riders to donate to the Chicago Public Schools arts programs.
In the video, released as part of the “Undercover Lyft” series, Chance gets behind the wheel while disguised in sunglasses and a maroon beanie and introduces himself as “John.”
“I really did feel gullible,” clueless rider Deisree Hemphill told The Chicago Tribune after getting a ride from the rapper.
“Even in that short ride, he was talking about all the things that he wanted to do for the city. He’s the real deal.”
Throughout each ride, Chance dropped hints about his true identity, offered up some goofy freestyles and educated riders about Lyft’s Round Up and Donate feature, which allows users to support a charity of their choice--including CPS: The New Chance Fund.
As the outlet notes, Chance and his nonprofit SocialWorks have already given millions of dollars to Chicago Public Schools in recent years.
