'SNL': Pete Davidson Under Fire For Poking Fun At Veteran’s Eyepatch

Pete Davidson is facing backlash after he mocked the appearance of GOP congressional candidate Dan Crenshaw on this weekend's Saturday Night Live

The Washington Post notes that Crenshaw, who is running for a seat representing Texas' second congressional district, lost his right eye in 2012 after a bomb exploded during a mission in Afghanistan, his third military deployment.

"This guy is kind of cool," Davidson noted during the "Weekend Update" segment as a photo of Crenshaw wearing an eye patch flashed onscreen. "You may be surprised to hear he’s a congressional candidate from Texas and not a hit man in a porno movie."

Davidson continued with a grin, "I'm sorry, I know he lost his eye in war, or whatever." Droves of viewers took to Twitter to slam Davidson for the joke.

Even Crenshaw's opponent, Democrat Todd Litton, tweeted, "No matter what side of the aisle you’re on, Dan’s military service and sacrifice for our country are to be admired and appreciated. Period."

Crenshaw himself reacted to the SNL episode by tweeting, "Good rule in life: I try hard not to offend; I try harder not to be offended. That being said, I hope @nbcsnl recognizes that vets don’t deserve to see their wounds used as punchlines for bad jokes."
