In a revealing new interview with Paper magazine, Amanda Bynes says her addiction to drugs--not mental health issues--led to her very public breakdown.
"I tried cocaine three times but I never got high from cocaine. I never liked it. It was never my drug of choice," the 32-year-old actress admits, adding that she preferred Adderall, ecstasy and molly.
Bynes goes on to explain that the drug use increased after she watched herself in the 2010 film Easy A. "I literally couldn't stand my appearance in that movie and I didn't like my performance,” she adds.
“I was absolutely convinced I needed to stop acting after seeing it. I was high on marijuana when I saw that but for some reason, it really started to affect me.”
It was at that time that Bynes started “hanging out with a seedier crowd" and announced her retirement from acting on Twitter.
In hindsight, Bynes says the tweet was “foolish” and she “was young and stupid.”
