On Friday, Ellen DeGeneres made a big push for Kevin Hart to host the Oscars. He had stepped away from the job weeks ago after some seemingly homophobic tweets from the past came back to haunt him.
During her interview with Hart on Friday, Ellen revealed that she had called the Academy on his behalf to appeal for a second chance and that they wanted to work it out so Hart could come back and host. Kevin said he was reconsidering his decision.
On the show, Ellen said to Kevin: "There are so many haters out there. Whatever is going on in the internet, don't pay attention to them. That's a small group of people being very, very loud. We are a huge group of people who love you and want to see you host the Oscars."
Since then, she’s been hit with a backlash and some fans don’t understand why she’s supporting him.
After the show, and the backlash, Ellen tweeted: ”I believe in forgiveness. I believe in second chances. And I believe in @KevinHart4real. In this conversation, @KevinHart4real was authentic and real, and I'm in his corner. #OscarsNeedHart."
