Demi Lovato Deletes Twitter After 21 Savage Comments Spark Backlash

Demi Lovato deactivated her Twitter account on Sunday after she faced backlash for laughing at memes about 21 Savage, a British rapper who was detained by ICE on Sunday and reportedly faces deportation.

"So far 21 Savage memes have been my favorite part of the Super Bowl," she wrote in a now-deleted tweet.

Many critics called out Lovato for mocking someone who is facing deportation, including rapper Wale. "Why is somebody's freedom funny? I don't get the joke," he wrote. Others took a much nastier approach and wrote things like, "Go shoot some more heroine, Demi."

Lovato shared several screenshots of the hate she received on Instagram and wrote, "Wasn't laughing at anyone getting deported. I know that's not a joke… not have I EVER laughed at that. The meme I posted/was talking about was of him writing with a feather pen. Sorry if I offended anyone. But it's no excuse to laugh at someone's addiction let alone their OD."

She added, "F**k Twitter. This is why I don’t tweet anymore."

Lovato also slammed Wale and claimed he was "salty I never replied to his desperate tweets years ago."

He took the high road and replied, "Still ain't gon disrespect you.. still praying for you, Demi. Glad you seen my old tweets. Hopefully you seen the ones providing prayer and comfort when you were down... Go queen."
