As part of Variety's Actors on Actors series this week, Adam Sandler sat down with Brad Pitt to discuss his career, where it was revealed that an old NYU professor had once advised him to quit acting. Pitt had apparently heard the story, and asked Sandler to confirm.
"You were at NYU, and it was your acting coach, or acting professor," Pitt said. "‘Think about something else. Listen, you got heart, but you don’t have it. Choose another path,” the professor told student Sandler.
Pitt said he also heard that Sandler later ran into the same professor, and instead of rubbing his success in the teacher's face, "you introduced him to your friends and you said, ‘This is the only teacher to ever buy me a beer.’"
Sandler also thanked Pitt for praising his performance in Uncut Gems. “I gotta tell you, when you tell me I did good in Uncut Gems, that feels good," Sandler said.
